The class will focus on song selection and storytelling through song.  It will explore solo singing techniques, mic technique, improvisation, and stage presence. All students will choose a story or theme from their life to share, and with the help of teachers, pick  songs to accompany the story and build a mini-cabaret set. This class is a 16-week course, culminating in an optional performance

ADULT ENSEMBLES

🌞
SUMMER SESSION – 6/24-8/18/2024

ADULT ENSEMBLE

You’re walking up 7th street.  It’s a quiet summer night and the town feels deader than dead.  You wonder what you’ll do tonight: Netflix? That book you’ve been reading for two years? Refine that sourdough recipe? It’s all just so, meh.  Then you hear it – a groove from down the street washes over you.  The guitars, the bass, the drums, the keys, and someone is singing with their whole heart on the line. You find yourself standing out front of Mister John’s Music. Through the bay windows you can see smiles, rocking back and forth to the beat, and one of them just broke into an all out vicious guitar solo. You are in awe. Suddenly the music stops, and the front door of the school creaks open. “Hey you.”  You stand there frozen.  “Yea you. Come on in here. We need someone on rhythm guitar!” You know some chords, nothing special, but there’s no way you’re gonna say no. You step in and join the party.

Adult Ensemble is essentially a weekly band practice, for adults, led by Mister Emmett. The only requirement for this class is to have knowledge of major, minor, and dominant 7th chords on either guitar, bass, piano, or to be proficient on drums (keep a beat). Throughout the session we will explore songs and their arrangements. Sometimes we’ll try and sound like the recording, sometimes we’ll create our own arrangements. Students are also required to be open minded about roles. For instance, ideally students will be open to moving to and from instruments depending on the song. Other than that, let’s have some fun. See you Monday.
